Parking yourself costs more than that from the first day: Car Park 4 is £67 for 24 hours and £469 for a week if you just turn up. Parking is the better call when nobody can do the two return trips, or when you'd rather have the car waiting when you land.

If you're getting a lift
A lift costs £20 in charges. Dropped off at Premium Set Down (£8, up to 15 minutes) and collected from Car Park 5 within an hour (£12), because Premium Set Down is for dropping off and the airport recommends Car Park 5 for collecting. The Drop Off car park is free for up to 10 minutes, but it is designed for dropping off, you lose the free time if you come back within an hour, and the airport advises Car Park 5 for collecting. It does mean two return trips to the airport for whoever drives you, which is the real cost of a lift. Where you drop off at Birmingham
Premium Set Down is right outside the terminal — about a one-minute walk to the doors — and is barrier-free, with ANPR. The free Drop Off car park is a separate site, a 5–10-minute walk to the terminal via a covered walkway (or the free inter-car-park bus), with a no-return-within-one-hour rule.

Why the sums have shifted at Birmingham
