Parking is the better call when nobody can do the two return trips, or when you'd rather have the car waiting when you land.

If you're getting a lift
A lift costs £12.10 in charges. Dropped off at a Terminal 2 or 3 Drop Off zone (£5.50, up to 5 minutes) and collected from T2 Express Pick Up or the T3 Pick Up zone (£6.60, up to 15 minutes), because you can't collect from a Drop Off zone. Dropping off at the free JetParks 1 Drop Off area instead brings the lift down to £6.60, but your passenger takes the free shuttle bus to the terminal, around 6 minutes, and it doesn't run back the other way for collections. It does mean two return trips to the airport for whoever drives you, which is the real cost of a lift. Where you drop off at Manchester
Each terminal has its own signed Drop Off zone on the forecourt, and both are barrier-free ANPR — cameras read your plate, there's nothing to pay on site. Terminal 1 has closed, so all drop-offs use Terminal 2 or Terminal 3.
If you'd rather park
Parking buys you independence: no one has to fit your flight times around their day, and the car is there when you land. The cheapest official option for a week at Manchester is T2 West Multi Storey (P3), at £443.80 if you turn up without booking. Manchester Airport says pre-booking can save up to 77% on the turn-up price, based on an 8-day stay in January 2027; it doesn't say which car park or which turn-up price that is measured against. It recommends booking ahead, especially at peak times such as the summer holidays, and warns that its multi-storeys have limited capacity and can't serve all demand at peak periods, so it can't guarantee you a space if you just turn up.

Why the sums have shifted at Manchester
Manchester's drop-off charge has risen from £5 in 2025 to £5.50, up about 10%. Each rise makes a lift a little dearer, but at £12.10 it would take a much bigger rise for a lift to cost more in charges than even a day's parking. Every UK rise is tracked in the price index and the change log.
Or leave the car at home
Manchester Airport station links to all terminals by covered walkways (a 5–15 minute walk), with direct trains to Manchester Piccadilly in about 20 minutes. For some trips that takes the park-or-drop-off question off the table.
Don't forget the pick-up
Never try to collect passengers in the Drop Off zones — Manchester charges £100 for attempting it. Official pick-up is in the multi-storeys: Multi Storey T2 West (M90 5PR) at £6.60 for up to 15 minutes, with the equivalent multi-storey pick-up at Terminal 3. And don't plan to wait at the free JetParks 1 area for an arrival — it's a drop-off facility, and its free shuttle runs one way only, from the car park to the terminals.
